We haven't had an oil thread since the last fucking one, so I'm posting a new one.

It looks like GM dealers will now be using Mobil 1 0W40 FS (European Formula) for 6.2L truck and suv service going forward. Since it has the Dexos R approval now, it is simply a less expensive option.

I have already used it and I previously stated the only thing I have heard is that it had slightly higher viscosity and slightly lower calcium additive than the the Supercar.

I get mine at Walmart and have paid $5 quart last time. With a $10 filter, I'm doing $55 oil changes.

Here's a video discussing the change. This guy stays pretty current on topics.

Yeah, I’ll be running the cheapest 0/40 Dexos shit I can find and let Mary replace the engine.

I think I’ve still got a couple quarts left of the 0/20…curious as to what non purists think of putting that in the next oil change and completing the fill with 0/40? I just hate the thought of pouring good oil into the ground.

I wouldn't even think twice about running it. It's the same basic oil and additives with different viscosity. You'll end up with 0W38.....LOL.

If your motor hasn't gone bad by now, I'm not sure it would if you continued to run 0W20. I would bet there's a significant number of 6.2Ls running around that haven't even done the recall and the oil life indicator has been pegged for +1000 miles.........LOL.

Axe,

I used the Mobil 1 FS on my last oil change, paid about ~$28 for the 5 quart container and I buy Wix filters through RockAuto. I have noticed occasional updates on the GM Dexos site:

Just cause I’m extremely OCD/anal but also frugal/cheap… if it were me, I’d use one quart each of the next 2 oil changes, not that it really makes much difference.

But then your OCD would be thinking about it for two oil change intervals instead of just one......LOL.

I generally don't like mixing oil, but on my new sxs its supposed to take one gallon of oil with filter change, but it takes an extra 1/2 quart to get it to the full level at the top of the sight glass. So on the first change, I used a gallon of Kawasaki semi synthetic and half a quart of left over synthetic from my previous Can Am.
