Out of curiosity, for those that have the 6.2L, does your coolant system hold pressure over night? Mine seems to still have a bit in the morning. I added coolant this morning so I can actually track how much loss it has over a period of time and noticed it did. Looking up on the internet it seems it should not have any come morning. Thanks for the advice.

I see some in my tank when I pop the hood, but it never seems full or reads the same. I guess I should look at it and see if it's actually filled correctly.

I’ve never seen anything to say full on my tank. Just has lines at the seam. I took that for the fill line. This time I wrote the mileage and where I filled it to so I can see how fast it actually falls.

Yeah, I've looked at mine wondering where the hell the full line was........ 2500HD is same bullshit.

It's like having no transmission dipstick. You just guess at shit or take the dealers word for it.

I try to not take the dealers word for anything. When they went from having mechanics to technicians it all went down hill.

Back when I started his thread, I topped off the coolant to the top of the book on the side of the tank. I has now been four months and about 3500 miles. It's down almost 1/4 from the top of that book now. I just looked everywhere I could see and there are no visible leaks or residue. No smell in the engine bay or out the tail pipes. The cap itself looks clean so I wouldnt think it was coming around it and evaporating. No smell in the oil or a milky look to it so wouldnt think it was there either. It is my understanding it is a closed system and its supposed to loose very little. I would assume this would be considered quite excessive. What are your thoughts?

Seems like minimal operational loss to me. You are talking about a few ounces on a system capacity somewhere around 6 gallons.

Shouldn't it only be a few ounces like that over the course of the entire year not, 4 months?

Like anything, there will be “acceptable” limits to what is lost or consumed. Just like oil.

Best advice I can give you, if you have concerns is pressure test the system or have it pressure tested. This obviously wouldn’t be a perfect solution as the engine would not be “expanded” at operating temp.

That minimal loss you are reporting though. I wouldn’t worry. Just keep it topped up as required.

Keep in mind the absolute minimal capacity that bottle actually has in the context of the entire system. It is an expansion tank. Very different than a capacity tank like gas.

Might want to do a thorough check of the lines and fittings. You may have a small leak on the underside that is just building up on the skid plates and won't be visible without some better inspection.

The coolant mixture is 50% water, water evaporates with temperature and time, and even a closed system is going to transfer moisture and pressure to the atmosphere over time.

Yeah I did that this morning. Nothing was there. While looking around , even pulled the pcv lines to see if there was oil build up and nada on they also. Dry as a bone.

Had the wife smell around the exhaust on start up just to make sure there was nothing. She said she didn’t even smell gas. She has the most sensitive nose of any person I have ever met lol.

If you guys are saying that is minimum and nothing to worry about, I’ll just move on.
