I bought my truck before the dealer ever installed the factory mats, they were just piled in the back seat area when I first got the truck at 9:30 PM after a long full day of haggling on price and trade value, I guess because it had just been delivered to the dealership that morning and since they knew I was looking for that exact ruck they called me while it was still in PDI, so I got to it before it was ever rally 'on the lot'. I had a 21 RST that came with the all weathers with the carpet insert and I liked them so I moved them over from the old truck before I drove away that first night. Those mats were molded to go right up against the storage without going under it, but I think the factory ones have a groove that is meant to be cut off with a razor knife so they fit up against the storage instead of going under the storage if you so choose for easy removal, but I bet the dealerships don't want to do that cutting so they just remove the storage tray to put the mats in and figure the customer can cut them if they choose to. So I am pretty sure the tray would have to come out unless you wanted to just tug them out from underneath the storage bin.
