Help! MultiFlex Tailgate Advice

Everyone I need some solid advice here! Decided to pull the trigger on a Silverado ZR2 but I have a dilemma.

The dealership has a 2024 on the lot exactly how I want spec’d for an additional 4K off (10k total discount) but it does not have the multiFlex Tailgate.

I could get a 2025 exactly the same but with the multiFlex and pay 4K more than the 2024 (6k discount).

I really wanted the multiFlex tailgate but not sure it’s worth 4K lol. I looked into possibly installing a used one in the future but seems like a head ache from the YouTube video and forums I looked into. Plus it might end up being pretty pricing when all is said and done.

So my question is what route do you all think I should take? Those who have the multi gate is it really a game changer? I’m still a young buck so I figure hoping in and out isn’t much of an issue but would love to get some insight!

I appreciate the input!
I Have one on mine but rarely use it (other than a load stopper) because I have a tow hitch skid plate with the step and can't use it with that installed. It also depends on whether or not you off-road a lot, because if you do it's always best to have a hitch slider plate or a tow hitch turned upside down to protect your bumper. It is saved my bumper countless times....It's a PIA to take out a hitch or a slider step every time you want to use the flex gate. I have a Decked system, so my bed is very organized with the drawer system. I use the step on the tow hitch slider or on the sides of the bumper much more than I use the flex gate. You really can't run a tow hitch and use the flex gate at the same time, it won't fold down all the way and if you forget and drop it... it will dent up the top part of the tailgate. There is one exception I saw from one of the fellas here in the group that had a tow hitch that was able to clear when the flex gate was down. I think it was @Byrds8... Can't remember exactly.... They posted a picture of the clearance. My wife insisted on having it so we purchased one with the flex gate. But have only used it less than a dozen times in the 3 years I've owned the truck.
Like @AXE said... It all comes down to a matter of personal preference and how much you will actually use it. If you don't run a tow hitch and you are constantly loading in and out of the bed of the truck, I would definitely get one because it makes getting in and out of the bed a breeze, especially with the handle, but other than that for 4K it wouldn't be worth it IMHO. One last thing to keep in mind is if you have a Decked system, you will have to remove the handle to install the Decked.

Here's an additional consideration for 2024 vs 2025 - the engine. Not sure what you are looking at but if it's the 6.2 the 2024 is likely under the recall whereas (at this time) the 2025 isn't (crankshaft manufacturing was supposedly changed for late 2024s and later). I'd be adding that to the decision process.

Supposedly is a BIG stretch.....

Rarely ever used mine...next go around I'm buying a truck without it. My first ZR2 did not have it and I never missed it.
In fairness, do you use the rest of the bed? I mean they are only useful if you use the bed.

I'm up in mine enough, I'm putting in an escalator.

I did use my bed a lot and have all of tools that I use to service my customers. Nothing super heavy, but the bed does get full with tools, ladders, and my compressor.

That's what makes it worth it to me. Also, when you carry long stuff like ladders and 2x4s, it's nice to flip it down and put up the cargo stopper to keep everything from sliding out.

Otherwise, yeah if your not using it, it's just an extra dust collector that makes it a PIA to keep clean. Doesn't matter how much water you run to clean it, when you drive afterwards shit is always leaking down the tailgate. It's like the cowling on the hood and the rear cab spoiler, just another maintenence hassle.

Hopefully he has already made his decision since this post is a year old. LOL!
Yeah I just looked at the date now. I was just scanning through the forms and didn't realize how old it was...🤔

No problem MNNJR69, there was a lot of updated conversations after your post. My .02 cents, I do handyman work since I retired and I love mine for my tools and when I need supplies. Easy entry/exit to the truck bed. Also with the center part of the tailgate down I can reach things in the bed easier. I would recommend it.

It appears to be standard on the ZR2 and at first I did not mind it. However, without that handle that is not on the 26 (per the dealer salesman) it is worthless. Being 78, and having had two back operations last year) and with a 2500 that step is just too high and nothing to hold onto. My 25 Silverado TB had the multiflex and I could easily stop up, grab the handle and walk into the bed. (granted I don't need to walk into the bed that often.)
When installing the bakflip on Tuesday, I had to use a small step ladder.

Get a Decked Drawer system.... No more climbing... Just pulling and pushing 👍. I love mine.... I would have to say out of all the things I've done to my truck that is my absolute favorite mod.

You could probably order one from the Dealer parts department from the last year they were offered and have it installed.

You can pick one up online pretty cheap. Mine is on a shelf in the garage, lol. Kind of gets in the way so I removed it. But I can see in a few years I might would have more need for it 😅. These trucks are tall.

I've got one I'll give you, just pay the shipping. I had to take the handle off because the Decked system wouldn't fit with it in...
