I had received notification through a carfax email of all things, that my VIN was now ready to take in to the dealership for remedy. Knowing I have not received my official follow up letter from GM, I was skeptical so called my local dealership and service provider to have them run my VIN to verify that, and indeed, it was opened up, weird considering I had just inquired about it over the weekend and it still wasn’t available, nor did they know how to open it up manually. Anyway, I asked them several questions regarding the recall, how it will be handled, oil replacement cost, the extended warranty, etc. I know there had been some discussion on here about what will or won’t be covered under this extended warranty and I specifically asked, and was told the ENTIRE engine will be covered under the warranty, didn’t matter if something failed on the top half or lower half, it will all be covered. Also, I brought up the difference in price in the oil change price between the 0-20 and 0-40 being double and they validated that is correct. I honestly don’t think that’s ethically right to do. We did not ask for these recalls or the change in the oil, GM did that, and I think they should have to eat the difference every time our trucks get the oil changed. I hope there will be a class action lawsuit with that.

If you are paying the dealer for oil changes, you could run the full service life of the oil as shown in the DIC, which is probably gonna be around 7k miles. If the motor now has the extended warranty, there isn't much incentive to maintain it more frequently.

Conversely, if you want to change it yourself, you can do it for $60 or thereabouts. Walmart sells Mobil 1 0W40 European Formula oil (now Dexos approved) for $5 quart (5 qt jug is $25) and OEM filters are $10. You can do three changes for about $135, which is less than one dealer change.

Is changing the oil every 3 months overkill? That’s normally how I do it cause it’s just what the norm was years ago. You saying every 7k miles is fine on these engines? I’d hate to be spending unnecessary money for oil changes, especially when they go up to $200-$220 unless I found somewhere to learn how to do it myself. Majority I believe don’t do it themselves, me included, is to not have to worry about oil disposal

I have done most of my changes at 3000-5000 miles and the oil analysis looks good. It's definitely better under 5k. Good quality oil will go 5k, but it definitely breaks down quickly after that. I would never do 7k.l intervals, that's just manufacturer bullshit "to conserve resources and reduce maintenance".

I have an oil analysis thread you can review results and others have posted their results.

All the O' Reilly and Auto Zone stores recycle oil. Disposal is a non issue. Changing oil is an easy job on an LT/ LS engine. Lots of tutorials on You Tube.

Also, there's plenty of room to work under the ZR2, so no need for ramps or jack stands.
