Light Bar Mounting Options

Has anyone actually created a bar that bolts to the stock bumper and doesn't cost an arm and leg? I would rather have something a little sturdier to mount my pods to but I have dug through all the threads on here and it seems everyone asks about it but no one has one.

I've seen a couple people drill and mount directly to the metal bumper and I'm debating going that route. Any downsides? Anyone that's done this and had it for a while that can provide feedback on their experience?

I think you coukd do that cleanly. That bumper metal isn't heavy guage, but if you placed some bar stock underneath to firm it up it wouldn't go anywhere.

Agreed! I’ve cut into mine for my side lights and it’s fairly easy. Supporting underneath is a great idea for stability. Pull the grill and you may have enough room to access without pulling bumper.

To be fair, I already need to pull the bumper for the spacers, so that wouldn't be a deal breaker, but I would rather take care of everything in one shot if I can.

I’m working on an idea I had a couple of months back. Today is the first day I’ve been able to test fit. Trying to take photos as I go and it’s going to take a minor amount of fabrication but here’s a couple of teaser pics…

And here’s probably the reason why no one makes a front bumper bar mount like this:

The position of a light bar mounted across the bumper partially blocks right in front of the truck when the front camera is on.

Haven’t decided yet on keeping it on, but I probably will because I need the light at night more than I need the camera. I don’t think that camera is used for anything else, but I’m going to check it out.

Looks good to me!

Thanks Axe, I drove around with it today… the mount is really sturdy no shakes or jitters. The issue with the front camera doesn’t bother me so for now it’s staying on

You think you can relocate that camera to the bar above? I did that on my sxs both front and rear and it gave a better view anyway. All I had to do was drill a hole with a hole saw and it snapped right in. They make flush plastic plugs to fill holes.

I’ll look into that.

I got the brackets from zroadz.com, they are for 2019 and later non-ZR2 Silverado. I had to drill one hole on each bracket because the two bumper bolts are closer together. The factory outside bolts are just about perfect.
