Hey all, new to the forum. Just looking to learn a bit on these trucks. Picked up a used 24 ZR2, with the baby Duramax. Should make pulling the boat easier!

I traded in a 2018 Tundra that I loved. Couldn’t buy another due to the no V8.

If anyone has any tips on things that should be done to the duramax quickly I’d be all ears.

Thanks, Mark

As mentioned, nothing you need to do to the diesel or anything else. Just start hanging accessories on it you want, plenty of info on her bout that.
Welcome

Waiting on Baja designs for front and rear bumper fogs/reverse lights. When I bought it already had the ADD bumpers without lights.

Went a lil cheaper on the 40” lightbar for front bumper and got RC. Other than that, in my opinion it doesn’t need much! I bought the RC seat covers for front and rear as well.

Thinking real hard about the thunderstorm grey ppf for the whole truck. Not sure if I’m going to pull the trigger yet or not.

I’ve seen stuff for fuel savers and catch cans, do those need to be done or is oem ok?

Well you got the ADD bumpers, those things are spendy, nice job. Pics when you get the lights done
Fuel savers-nah, I don’t think there is any proof those work tank after tank.
Take that diesel on some long runs which will keep your emissions system in good order nothing to it really, treat her like any other rig, Oil changes around 3-5K would be wise.
While we’re spending your money, you might look at Banks idash guage

Welcome! NIce rig! Pulling that boat definitely won't be an issue anymore! I pull a mini excavator with no problem and pass people doing it! I have a PPE catch can and it does work, i've had a catch can on every Silverado I've owned. Currently have the PPE pipe zilla w/PPE intake elbow w/ factory air box, better throttle response no decrease in fuel economy like a cai, PPE heat exchanger intercooler definitely noticed smoother idle. Banks idash is on my list to get. Agree oil changes 3-5k. I run a quart of oil through to get the rest of old oil out from another bad Gm pan design before refilling. I do a lot of mixed driving, stretching it out on long runs helps with regens. Using archoil at the moment can't really say I see any fuel improvement but any added lubricity helps. Don't buy def at a gas station find a local auto parts store that has high turnover rate, it does have a shelf life.

Hey Gator, thanks for the info. I have a few concerns with my driving style, this is a work truck for me. Traded that tundra in with 250k miles on her in 6 years. I work all over the country (O&G) and I do more off roading than most people I meet. This truck will truly get tested, and I know absolutely nothing about diesel motors. Back in the day before DEF system I know you could idle them all day. Now, I don’t thinks it’s the best thing for them. I’ve had the truck for 5 days and already put 750 miles on her. Do to work, I sit at idle sometimes for up to two hours running a/c in the Tx heat. My plan for DEF fluid was buying at the pump at Buccees. Would think that would be pretty fresh but don’t know for certain.

Do the mods you mentioned with catch can, intake, Intercooler void warranty?

I looked up the banks dash after it was mentioned, typed in truck info and website said nothing that fits the truck available. Also, excuse my ignorance but what’s the purpose of it if the truck isn’t modified?

Wish I had a Bucees near me. Even though it’s not top tier fuel it’s so fresh you’ll never know the difference. Def shouldn’t be a problem at bucees plus it’s cheaper there too. Any long periods of idle isn’t healthy for gas or diesel in my opinion but it’s inevitable it’s going to happen. That’s why changing oil 3-5k is important in modern diesel b/c oil does lose its viscosity eventually and with diesel sut it speeds up process. I started getting oil analysis done from speed diagnostix. This is my first diesel, after block casting issues with 5.3 liter in my 23’ Silverado I was done with gas engine. Anytime you can improve efficiency and protect certain components is always good. The stealership has to prove behind reasonable doubt that modifications caused the issue and with as of late proof is already in the pudding with known issues. Only issues seen with LZ0 are oil leaks front block oil plug and oil pan. If anything major happens I would return it back to stock seeing they are simple items to swap. Banks idash is plug and play it will allow you to see temps and pressures of real time data that your dummy gauges won’t show and keeping an eye on such things can help prevent a problem before it gets worse. Check out demonworks YouTube, he’s a master gm tech that has 3.0. A lot of great info videos.
