My 23 only has 3600 mi on the clock and I am constantly looking over my shoulder whenever I drive. I have not had any issues with the truck "YET" But that could change each time I take it out. I do have the full warranty and extended warranty on the vehicle. I hope to soon have the hood wrapped (glare issue) and the truck de-badged and have it pin stripped with paint to high light the lines of the truck.

I posted a link to this in one of the many 6.2 failure threads earlier as well, it’s about time. I’ve said all along it’s ridiculous to give GM a pass on how bad these motors have gotten. Pure nonsense to “accept” we should have to consider this the new norm and go on.

Just start pulling oil samples and you'll know if the wear metals are too high. Nothing will prevent catastrophic failure, so it either happens or doesn't. Seems like fewer issues as the miles are now piling up in some of these rigs.

Yea, I have been watching the oil and been changing it just for added insurance. I am using Royal Purple 0-20 weight. I have had good results using it in my race car.

Instead of messing with GM and all the time we have to spend with our rigs in their shops, is there shop or something that we can take our rigs to or do ourselves (if you have the tools/expertise) to get upgraded bearings or all the other things that might fail? Crazy that GM is good with all this. If everyone left and went Ford, Ram, or Toyota that will hurt. No one wants to go that far though. lol

I'm not sure if we've gotten to the bottom of the problem? Is it bad bearings (main crank and rod), bad camshaft, or bad machining in the block. Could be a combination. They'll never tell us until the lawsuit proceeds.

YouTube is going nuts over this issue now. I've seen many videos posted today. TFL did one, but they kind of downplay the significance. Read the comments, there's so many 6.2L failures it's hard to believe.

After seeing these comments, Reddit, and the ones on this forum it seems more prevalent and now I see why it's 3 months waiting for a motor.

This is going to affect resale a lot going forward. Nobody will want one of these time bombs.

Hopefully GM is forced to warranty them for 5+ years and 100k miles.

I had the 5.3L in my 15 Silverado fail, because of the AFM and the lifters, about 5 years ago and the motor was replaced under warranty. Didn't take long to get the motor and the total job took about 3 weeks. It still sucked goin thru that situation back then. Surely don't wanna go thru it again with this 6.2L. Especially if it takes such a long time to get a motor these days.

Royal Purple is a very good oil ! Thats my go too oil for sure!
E.O.S. additive by AC Delco goes in every build!
I've seen as much as 5-8 HP on the Dyno by just changing from any other brand.

I got my 2007.5 as a demo with about 6k on the clock.

It failed due to lifters/AFM about 5 years later with close to 62k on the clock. The dealer didn't want to fix it, but I pressed the matter and threatened legal action.

I sure hope that doesn't happen again.

They will probably be required to reimburse any truck owner who falls into this category for any repairs out of warranty which is a good thing. An extended warranty would be nice.

Lots of possibilities with this. Overall its a good thing for those of us who plan to keep this truck for a while...but bad thing for those that like to swap out rides every couple of years as i see values of these trucks tanking with these tainted engines. I imagine GM trying to get out of this with something as simple as extending the powertrain to 100k which IMO is unacceptable.

I love this truck. I got a really good deal on it so didn’t pay what it stickered for. Just knowing this truck is high 70’s low 80k and having these issues really is unacceptable. I hope they do the right thing, but if I have to go after market and get better internals then so be it. I got the extended warranty so I’ll wait until it’s up and just hope I don’t have the issues I had with my 5.3 TB

The KEY to the lifter and bearing issues is the DFM! Everything I have read and seen.... all leads back to the DFM
Change your oil frequently using high quality oils and filters and get a DFM disabler as well as an oil catch can and it will dramatically improve the life and quality of the engine. Change the break-in oil before the first 1k miles.
I installed my J&L oil catch can before the engine had 5k miles and
I purchased from Range a few months ago and could not be happier.
Prior to that I drove in L9 for the entire life of the engine with the exception of a couple thousand miles. I believe I have taken care of this engine in every possible way I can to extend the life, along with purchasing an extended 86 mo./ 125,000 mi bumper to bumper I am hoping to get well over 150,000 mi out of this truck.
Sadly, GM will probably stop making the engine and move on to something new and just let them die out instead of addressing the issue with a major recall. Even those engines that have already had lifter failures, mainly just get repaired with new parts and not a new engine. So the problem remains and just prolongs the next failure.

My sentiment is the VAST majority of people buying vehicles equipped with these motors aren’t on forums researching a “hack” to keep their v8 alive. I don’t believe GM published this in their owners manual either. You shouldn’t have to do all of this after 20’ish years of some variation of this problem…

While this strategy has been discussed at length on this forum and many others, most agree with you and also hope that’s the solution. And I would certainly agree with you it will definitely help. We have had some though note previous trucks with a disabler still implode (although certainly fewer)…then it goes down the trail what oil, how often, which specific generation of lifters, etc. crazy to me we even have to discuss/speculate/debate it at all.
