With the current recall on the 6.2L L87 engines, which my ‘23 ZR2 is a part of, and until its my turn to take my truck in for testing, I was curious if installing a catch can would capture any metal shavings, if something was going on, cause I don’t know the answer. I know there are some YouTube channels that are taking apart oil filters to check for shavings in the filter, but wasn’t sure if a catch can would do that as well. Thank you for helping a brother out!

Not likely! The shit thats suspended in oil is mostly super fine, the filter catches the visible stuff. Take a look at my oil analysis thread and the photos I have of cut open filters. You wanna know what's in your oil, then get an oil sample analyzed by Blackstone and cut open a filter.

You will note in my oil analysis thread the most recently posted one from my wife's Tahoe all of a sudden has excess Iron particles present. You'll never have a problem until you do. I suspect I do, but will pull another sample early and see what it says. Then it may gonin for trade!

I wouldn’t make any engine modifications if your VIN is included in the recall. I would recommend doing used oil analysis. As many others here, I use Blackstone. I also do frequent oil/filter changes (3,000-3,500 miles).

Here is the link to order a free oil sample kit: https://www.blackstone-labs.com/
