Transmission Valve Body Failure 41K 2023 ZR2 1500

For the last month or two my 2023 1500 ZR2 has clunked a little when putting it in to gear. I originally thought it needed a fluid change but have been procrastinating due to cost of $1100.

Day before yesterday I was pulling out of Discount Tire and got a check engine light and the truck went in to limp mode. Fortunately I was about 1 mile from my dealer. I took it in and they pulled about a half dozen transmission codes.

I got the diagnosis yesterday, the transmission valve body needs a rebuild. Fortunately, the tranny is covered under original warranty although I do have an extended. Additional good news is the repair includes all new fluid.

I should have the truck back by the middle of next week, I'll keep you updated.

They replaced it as well as a new torque convertor (thanks to a misdiagnosis). Mine took 60 days for replacement...

My ol man drives Ram's, he's got an 1500 Laramie that's less than a year old and last week it started shifting horribly and then started grabbing and partially locking up when turning. Local dealer (small town) says "we've never heard of that", but we can look at it in a few weeks.......LMFAO........ everyone sells a POS nowadays and can't fix them in a timely fashion.

Got my truck back yesterday, so far so good. They rebuilt the valve body with later generation metal parts versus the first generation plastics. Hope it holds. Saved me $1100 on a fluid exchange and it drives pretty darn nice now. If you live in San Antonio, Frank Rivera at Gunn Chevrolet is an awesome service advisor.

Pretty sure the $1100 service your mentioning includes a filter replacement which is why it’s so expensive, I asked my dealer and they said I don’t need that until like 60k miles.

Changing the fluid though is a 30k-40k interval, they hook up a machine and suck out all the old to replace with fresh fluid. This was like a couple hundred bucks which I did plus both differentials, I spent like $500 total.

Makes me wonder if I got bad information??

Its a process. The y- pipe needs to come down for a filter change but $1k is crazy talk

I just ran across my receipt for my transmission "fluid exchange" and it was under $180 (no filter) and I had a service coupon. Your dealer will publish their service coupons on their website. I get them all the time in the mail too.

I've posted this before, but can't recall the exact intervals, but whatever I posted was correct. The fluid and filter changes should be done between 30-35k miles in my opinion. I did my first fluid drain at 15k, and will do fluid and filters at 30k.

I consider mine to be severe duty with towing, city traffic, light offroading, and very hot summer temps

With the known issues with the transmission valve bodies, it can't hurt to do them more frequently.

Gotta get back man, there’s nothing like feeling that snook thump and take off like a freight train. I was just at a work conference in downtown Tampa wishing I had bought my rod, not to mention all the little bodies of water I drove past going back down to West Palm. Just know there’s some chunky bass swimming in there.

My transmission in my 22 with 47k seems to be starting to act up lately. Hesitant to shift from park to drive. Stop and go traffic it lurches. Did you have any of these issues before the check engine light and tranny codes came on? Probably could use a fluid change. Was going to try to do it at 50k maintenance

That is exactly what I experienced. Tranny warranty is 60K…take it in
