Forgot to post the article that I clipped that from. Can't find the article, but it was in an X thread.

Anyway, the context was the recent $27 billion loans/grants made to auto industry for investment in EVs, batteries, and factories. They equated it to the GM bailout and Trump stated they would take equity stakes in the companies going forward. In case anyone is keeping score, the American taxpayers lost $11 billion on that 2008 GM bailout.

Corporate America and politicians win and American taxpayers lose as usual.

Intel will be making iPhone chips in the near future, all my pc’s run intel processors and WiFi/bluetooth chipsets at a bare minimum, maybe it is time to get them back on a sure footing in the industry. The US taxpayer pays for everything anyway, there is no such thing as government funded, it is all taxpayer funded, at least there may be some value in this, as opposed to benefits for illegals or the butchering of children for ‘gender affirming care’.

There's no value in tax payer funded private sector business.......that's communism. You either run a business and stay competitive or you lose your asses. INTEL hasn't been worth a shit for 2 decades and Apple hasn't innovated in 10 years.........they are next!

We were supposed to have flying cars by the 2000s, instead we're driving around in overpriced shit boxes with bad motors, bad transmissions, and bad electronics. Ain't enough subsidies to fix mediocrity, that only comes when your hungry!

If you say so then it must be true.
Sorry that your emotions are guiding your thinking! But the stats and don't lie!

Here's Intel"s chart vs NVDA's chart, I cut off the names to see if you can guess which one innovates vs the one that needs a taxpayer bailout!

Our local governments have handed out heaps of incentives and subsidies to Intel in recent years too, its not just the feds bailing them out. They are cooked and well lose that just like the GM bailout!

GMs chart since they were given a $50 billion taxpayer bailout, with an $11 billion lost to taxpayers. This is likely to look a lot worse soon with lower sales, huge taxpayer/customer funded losses, and warranty write downs. But they have barely eeked out a meager 4.5% gain YOY and they are basically selling the same products that rolled off the line in 2014......no innovation. This is a case study in why tax payer bailouts do not work.

Yeah, I’m sure you’re right, we should just let them fail and buy our vehicles from Japan or Korea, and our chips from Taiwan based off our designs. What could go wrong.

That's been going on for 30 years, did you just wake up Rip?

Taiwan Semi Conductor just built a giant chip plant (billions) about 5 miles from my house and already started on the second phase and announced the third. Then the CEO said Americans were too stoopid to work there, so they wanted to bring employees in from Taiwan. Now the apartment complex where my son lives down the road is filled with Chinese.......our government made massive concessions to build that facility on our soil to employ foreigners.........LOL...... but they own the technology to build the smallest/fastest chips.

Oh well, I planned and designed the 500/230kV transmission lines and substation that power the facility........ don't recall getting any government handouts, but we do good work, so why would we.

Wow, you sound so important, it's a shame we can't get you to run for President, I'm sure then all our troubles would be solved.

You're starting to get it now. I knew you'd come around when sufficient facts are presented.

It really wouldn't be that hard! Cut government by 75% and 90% of our problems are resolved. Government is never the answer, its always the problem. That's why our founding fathers set it up that way. Its been allowed to be basterdized since the depression, under the guise of "government knows better".

Your time would be better spent asking yourself why you're in favor of more bad government and ripping off tax payers to invest in dead private businesses. But you missed that from jump street, so you'll just keep on with your low information nonsense.

Yep government is here to “save us”. The below is called the Tytler’s Cycle. This is how he believed democracy would rise and fall. If you go off this cycle, look how close we are to the point of no return.

Government is supposed to be here to work for us. Sadly that hasn’t happened in a long time. It works for the rich and themselves and dont give two shits about anything beyond that.

Yep, quite an interesting perspective! After working with government agencies for 30+ years, it became apparent around 2005, that they only existed to serve themselves. We would hand them mountains of data and reports and they woukd wring their hands and ask for more studies. We'd do them and get or hand writing. Eventually they'd approve the projects almost exactly as we initially propsed with numerous conditions or mitigation. It never resulted in better projects, only delays and higher costs.

That's why I hate government involvement in anything and loathe them.taking a stake in private sector business. It can only get worse with more government.
