I have a love for the greats, but every now and then we get a cover that's just a notch above the original and you have to respect it. I'm not looking to start a war over whose version is best, but damn there's some good ones out there that I'll fight for. So fellow music lovers of all genres, share what you got. I'll kick this off with one of my favs, Little Wing by Stevie Ray Vaughn, sitting at the top of my list. SRV being a god of the guitar himself, taking on one of his idol's tunes and making it his own, sets the bar when a legend covers a legend. Jimi's original without a doubt was amazing, but when SRV ripped his rendition of Little Wing it was something magical to me.

Original by Jimi Hendrix

Cover by Stevie Ray Vaughn

I'll play.

I know Nickleback gets a lot of shit, but I really like their cover of The Devil Went Down to Georgia. The first time I heard this, my ex and I were on a road trip and it came up on Spotify. We both recognized the song and looked at the infotainment screen to see who the artist was and we saw that it was Nickleback. I like Nickleback, but she doesn't so it was surprising to hear her say it was one of the best covers of that song she'd ever heard.

Disturbed did a cover of Simon and Garfunkle's The Sound of Silence. I've seen top 10 lists where this is the #1 best cover of a song, ever. And I've seen worst 10 lists where this was the #1 worst cover song ever. I think its definitely earned its place in the top 10 best.

I always thought that Korn did this live cover of Pink Floyds's Another Brick in The Wall better than anyone else. It isn't often a live song sounds as good as the original, but they hit the pinnacle here. Vocals, lead guitar, drums, and bass all hit hard. It's a long one at 15 minutes, but worth it. Gotta listen on good speakers or headphones or you won't get the full effect.

I really liked this cover of Dreams by Fleetwood Mac as sung by Lani Gardner. I think there's a good bit of auto tune involved here, but nevertheless is sounds really good. I've listened to a couple other songs she sings and she definitely got a great voice.

Ok, I’ll admit I give people a lot of shit about Nickleback, but I’ve never heard this and yes I’ll say it’s pretty good. Not sure if it beats out the Muppets cover back in 1980, but it certain jams out!

And Draiman’s vocals are haunting! Love that one!

SOLID live cover and I agree, it’s rare that a live cover is good and Korn captured the spirit of the song well.

I really like this cover, need to check out more of her stuff! Anything by Fleetwood Mac that people cover is either really damn good or it sounds like a cat trying to shit a fork.

I enjoy Luke Combs version of Tracy Chapmans "Fast Car"
The original is one of those songs that is going to be SUPER hard to top under any condition. For me, Chapman is like an old soul throwback songwriter from the days of protest folk in the late 60s. Hit or not, her music has something to say. Tip of the hat to Luke Combs, great cover and he’s the real deal when it comes to pouring emotion into anything he does. Going to add his version to my drinking play list.

"Margaritaville" by Jimmy Buffett. I'm from Florida and a little Old School... Love Jimmy Buffett so I'd say "Margaritaville" by Sammy Hagar and Toby Keith... Also two of my Faves!!

Gonna throw this favorite in the chat. Bad Company as sung by Five Finger Death Punch originally by Bad Company!
