So just took my first mini road trip with my 2025 ZR2 with 3.0 diesel and I've read about ppl getting 26-30mpg with that diesel motor but I'll be darn if I could be much more than 23mpg driving on flat road, 75mph, no wind.

I was hoping for more! What results are you getting? Also, any truth diesels get more fuel efficient as they break in? Mine has ~700miles.

Thanks!

When I'm just rolling down my rural roads, I get about 27 +/-. Thats 45ish mph, no stops. Open Texas highway I get 23-26ish at about 75-80mph. My mpg did slowly get better, but I have to be honest, I didn't buy my rig for fuel economy so it's something that I get pleasantly surprised about from time to time, but it's never top of mind.

i'm just over 4K miles and it seems to have gotten better with mileage, but I can't say for sure as I've never steadily checked the mileage. the current trip mileage typically indicates ~25 mpg between my house and town on a rural relatively flat road, 12 mile drive. the 25 mile average usually indicates in the 23 - 24 mpg range, the 50 mile average around 21 - 22, and the 450 (or whatever the higher average is) typically comes in around 20 - 21. so, there ya go, i'm likely in the 20 mpg range. ha.

i've pulled the boat (roughly 2500 lbs) to the chesapeake from WV twice so far this year and have gotten ~13 on those trips (trip indicator in addition to the 50 mile average). it's around 180 miles one way.

best i've gotten was `26 on a trip to from WV to DC which was when it had like 300 miles on it.

i talked to a few people that live in the flatlands of VA prior to buying mine and was told what you're hearing: 30 mpg. i can't see it, but maybe so.

at the end of the day, it's quite a bit easier on fuel than the '24 6.2 i had that imploded was on gas.

Diesels will get better performance after you log some miles, so I think you'll see better results in the next 2000 miles.

I dont have any experience with the 3.0L, but definitely the case with the 6.6L Duramax. In fact on this current model, it was like a light switch at 1500 miles. I watched my mileage suddenly improve on about a 50 mile run. I think they program it into the ecu nowadays to reduce power and over fuel to assist in "break-in".

I also noticed this on a couole recent Ram Cummins motors. They were very sluggish and poor mileage for 1st 500 miles and then they seemed to come on normally.

Wow very interesting! I'll keep an eye out for sure and see if things improve!

I purchased my '25 last October and just passed 4000 miles here in flat Florida. Driving it home 250 miles I was split about 50/50 between a 55mph back road I was doing ~60mph on, and normal 65-70mph interstate I was doing about 70mph on; averaged 28mpg for the trip. About 1500-2000 mile range I did a ten hour round trip to south Florida and back, with luggage and four people in the truck, averaged 28mpg at probably 70-74mph range.

I've found the a/c alone can give or take 1-2 mpg, and it's far more fuel efficient in the 58-68mph range than it is above that. I'd expect to see a drop in hilly terrain.

If I'm driving 55-60mph without the a/c, I've seen it touch 29-30mpg, it's an incredible little engine.
