If they took a $300 million hit and haven't even addressed 10% of these craptacular motors (which might be a high estimate), then they are looking at $3 to 5 billion in warranty claims. That doesn't include the lawsuits and wrongful death settlements. What a fucking shit show that skirt is running!

That $300m adds an additional $111 per vehicle cost, if added to all vehicles sold. That doesn't take into account inflation, increased labor costs and parts supplier costs, etc., all that will make the sticker prices rise. Not good.

It may not happen, but you're still getting a new motor, cause they'll all eventually be replaced.......that's the program that's unfolding.

I’m new here and sorry but I’ve had 1999 GMC sierra with the old faithful 5.3 V8. No issues. Bought my ZR2 to replace that since it was a northeast truck with rust. Now this 6.2 and recalls. I haven’t noticed anything wrong yet but are they supposed to only replace motors if there are making noise? Aren’t dealers supposed to have a tool and trucks that are making too much internal motors noise will get a new motor? I asked my dealer and they will bring in my truck and add heavier oil weight and change my oil cap.

The process is scanning for a P0016 code to see if crank is out of alignment, a pico test that listens for vibrations caused by wear and misalignment, a 0W40 oil change will be done if your motor passes the test. Of course if your motor grenades, then you'll be towed and motor replaced.

I believe ultimately with the NHTSA directive, all motors will eventually be replaced. This is due to safety and risk of loss of life. Also, the class action lawsuits will force it.

I had a 2020 TB 5.3 and the lifter failed at 94K. It damaged the cam shaft as well. All in all, a 11k fix. I was relentless with GM until they agreed to cover 7k of it. Fixed it, sold it for 32k the next day and scooped up a 25 ZR2 6.2.

And after the initial free oil change, you’ll get the surprise of the cost difference of around $100 additional cost on every oil change after that. GM should eat that expense since they are ultimately responsible for it. Call Chevrolet directly and make noise 1 (866) 467-9700. It’ll take a few days for a supervisor to return the call (up to 4 business days) I got my first call back this morning (day 3) my appointment for the inspection is the day after tomorrow. Rental vehicle (availability and possibly out of pocket expense) could also be an issue depending on the resolution of the inspection.
