Hopefully I can get some solid input on my situation, and assist me with a way forward.
Recently I had installed the 1.5 inch Deaver leaf spring upgrade and realized the truck was still squatting a little bit, so I went ahead and ordered the +1 inch block from Peak suspension. Installation was easy and pretty straight forward, but after installation, there is a thumping sound that occurs ONLY when going over speed bumps between 1-3mph, and the passenger rear seems to go through more range of motion compared to the driver rear when going over bumps. I checked the torque on all bolts/nuts (Peak recommended 85ft lbs on the U Bolt nuts and 118ft lbs on the lower shock mount).
I continued to roll with it after having my mechanic take a look over my installation work, said torque on everything was good and he didn't hear anything going over bumps, which led me to believe this sound after lift blocks was normal.
I want to note that I have not noticed any performance issues with normal driving, no extra vibration or anything. I have yet to take it on any gravel roads or anything that I normally would for work due to the fact that I haven't needed to, but I'm reluctant to when thinking about it.
Fast forward to today, I noticed that the tops of the U Bolts that wrap around the top of the leaf are more pinched together on the right side than the left side, I have pictures attached for a visual example. Additionally, since I have coke bottle glasses, I verified by measuring with the length of my deep well socket, and surely enough, the length +1 inch fits on the left side, but the right side cant fit the socket at all, even by itself.
So the conclusion I have arrived to is that the problem is 1 of 2 things, or possibly a combination of both :
- The U Bolts on the right side being pinched inward on top of the leaf
- The shocks topping out due to them not being rated for more than +2 inches of lift, while I currently have 2.5 inches added.
I also want to note that there are no noises that occur upon acceleration.
I am working with peak suspension in the mean time to see if we can do an itemized purchase the rear shocks that are meant for the additional 2.5 inches, while I find a way to adjust the U bolts to me more even without having to jack it up a whole lot.
What do you all think?
***ADDITION***
I have also considered taking the peak blocks off and putting the stock ones on, Peak claims that they are compatible with the deaver leaf springs.
