Don from the DonsLife YouTube channel has posted a new video sharing information that he’s gotten from a GM insider. He shared what he could, and there is some interesting info about what the real problem is with the cranks.

Kind of a secretive fucker, most of that information we've known about for some time. Outsourcing and QC have been a shit show for a long while now, most notably post 2018. Every vehicle has a sticker with the % of foreign made parts, many of which would be "outsourced".

True, but I thought it was interesting the guy named the plant in Mexico that was churning out bad cranks. And you are 100% right about QC, GM let this shit go on for years while people's engines were blowing up - the QC is all on them regardless of where the parts were made. Somehow that never seems to make it to Mary's bonus though...

With respect to that crank, I haven't really heard the cranks were bad, just the bearings. I've heard misaligned con rods, which could imply bad cranks.

I'd have to listen to the video again, but I felt like this was a UAW North American whistleblower complaing about outsourced manufacturing, cause it likely goes to non union shops. Wasn't much meat on the bone regarding how they know the cranks were bad.

Maybe we'll learn more in the next video as he alluded, but this didn't tell me much.

Our trucks are built in Mexico! I am not convinced that is the problem. It's penny pinching and bad QC. Suppliers can be held to high QC standards if there's a will.

My motor says built in US, so I presume Indiana. The crank had 6000 miles on it before the truck was built....LOL.

Could be, but it seemed to be more from GM corporate than on the build floor. I doubt we’ll ever know the real truth. I just want my 10Y/150K warranty!

Screw the warranty I'd settle with a 5 pack of Black Ice little trees

Look at my latest post on the recall. Only remedy is a new motor. No oil viscosity change.

Yeah I heard that, too.. I guess the truth lies somewhere between the 3% claimed by GM and 100% needing a new engine. The whole thing is just a clusterfuck.
