Newbie with questions

Some back ground, I buy a new full size truck every 10 years, my last three have been Toyota's, but with the new v6 twin turbo and the new body style no longer a fan.

After much research I landed, picked and finally test drove a ZR2, wow what a truck.

But....then I find out about the recalls on the gas engine and the dealer says now worries its a 2025 and if anything happens they will fix it. (I'm sure he will be there is I break down in the middle of no where, lol).

So thoughts on the engine recall (toyota doing the same), longevity, reliability, what do you think?

It's the world we live in, there are no guarantees with quality anymore.

If you like the truck, buy it and have fun. I would trust the 2025 model a little more since they have publicly stated they have addressed the cam and rod bearings issue.

It's rare to see anyone with lifter issues lately. You can get the Range Module for a few hundred $$ to deactivate auto start/stop and the cylinder deactivation, which helps with reliability and annoyance.

I can guarantee you'll have more fun driving the ZR2 than most other trucks with the 6.2L motor and Multimatic DSSV suspension.

This ^^^. Anything mechanical can break down. Buy what you like, enjoy it and don’t worry as it will only take away from the enjoyment.

The start of stop was annoying when test driving, when I asked the salesman if there was anyway to shut that off and he said no. I will have to give much more research into the range module.

My decision was between the 6.2L or the Duramax, no true towing but do a lot of highway driving.

On my ZR2 there is a button that turns off the auto stop/start function. You have to press the button every time you start the truck. Every other year ZR2 has the same button. I would assume the 2025 does also. Don't know why the salesman would not tell you this. The switch is in the row of switches under the infotainment screen. It has an A with a circle around it.

Did you happen to drive a white one? They are superior to the other colors and don't have any engine issues. They also have slightly larger cup holders which is what sold me on mine. Happy shopping amigo.
