Currently, my tires are all 275/65R20 but the spare is 275/75R18. That puts them at .9" difference in diameter. Before I got drop $400+ on a wheel and another $450 on a tire, I figured id get you guys' opinions on having a same size spare as what is running on the truck. Should they be identical or is it going to hurt, even if run on the rear, having just under an inch of difference?

Thanks for the input.

I personally don't think it'll matter much, but when I run oversized tires, I like to get the same size on the spare. If it was really a concern, put the smaller tire on the front and run in 2wd.

I've never used a spare tire on my personal vehicle in my life, except on a rental car twice. I carry a quality plug repair kit/air compressor and use that to fix punctures and then get a proper fix done later or a new tire.

I have used spares on my trailers, but they are the same size, maybe slightly different.

Thanks. Didn’t know if it was a huge issue or not. I read somewhere running it on the back could be. But if it’s really a non issue then not gonna drop almost 900 on it

I think if you're going to keep the truck for a while (4+ years) I would invest in an equal size spare, but like AXE said, if anything swap the non equal sized spare to a front axle position and run in 2WD

Agreed ^^^, my thoughts are if you off road and have to do a change on the trail to continue your adventure, you’d want the same size if possible. If anything, grab an inexpensive wheel same size and put the matching tire spare on it, see if you can find a used spare matching. Lots of options, I run with plugs and repair kits along with sidewall tread kit.

Side note, I carry recovery gear cause I’m surrounded by tacos and raptors, feels like a high school parking lot. Mr BIZON!

Pretty much not planning on getting another unless I have no choice. If I can get this brick to make it 20+ years I’m good with that. Guess I’ll go with the idea of getting one to toss on it at some point.

You’re all right though. I cannot recall the last time I had to put a spare on. My idea was just precautionary.

Thanks for all the input.

I wouldn't replace the spare for that little of a difference. It won't matter. Spares usually age out before they get used. I say that but I have already ran my spare for a weekend on my ZR2 HD . But, who knows what tires you will have in a couple years, lol. You could go through the hassle only to end up changing tire sizes again.

This is a good point also. However, I’d replace with the same size tires that’s on it now so it would still match in size.

I'd run 295s for a beefier look when your ready. Most of those will be 34.5-34.8 inches tall. The spare would be closer in height if I'm reading your measuring right.

All current tires are 34.1”. If I get a matching wheel for the spare, it would be the same.
