Power under back seat

Has anyone wired a USB-C jack under the back seat? I want to keep my jump box under the back seat and on a charger.

I’ve only had my jump box for about a week, but my research on them and my knowledge of Lithium batteries leads me to believe that overcharging them will drastically shorten the battery lifespan. Might want to reconsider and check the charge status once a month or once per quarter. Just my opinion.

I carry a jump box in each of my vehicles. I just pull them out every now and then to check their charge state. If they need charging, then I do it. From all the stories Ive seen about lithium batteries starting fires, I don't think I'd want it connected constantly, even if it only charges when the truck is running.

This is one of those subjects that can be impacted by so many variables. The one that always pop in my mind is the ambient temperature where you live. Here in South Texas, you leave your rig in direct sunlight on a day that hits 110, thats a recipe for pushing limits on all kinds of things. Same goes for Arizona, had a Dr Pepper can fuse itself into the cup holder once and it was only parked for about an hour. Not gonna lie, I was impressed.

When it comes to anything Li battery based being stored in a vehicle, I start to get concerned. Maybe because I’ve watched them pop and how uncontrollably violent it is.

It shouldn’t charge unless it’ needs it. As stated above just check it occasionally. Lithium batteries don’t lose their charge as quick as other types.

I wouldn't leave them on the charger, it's unnecessary. My lithium jump packs stay charged for months and guage still shows 100%. It's rather impressive.

I do get concerned about leaving them in my vehicle, but I live in Arizona and had five of them in vehicles that sit in direct sunlight. I pulled some temps the other day and paint showed 180F and they seem to be going strong after several years.

Had a NOCO pack swell up and split the case several years ago. Let it sit in the gravel beside my house for a couple weeks and it never blew or started a fire.

It would be easy to add a charging port under the seat. Like everyone else said though, no reason to leave it charging. Jump packs hold a charge for a long time. Even if it sits for a year it will still jump a vehicle. Lithium-ion batteries only lose like 1-2% of charge a month. Constantly keeping them at 100% is actually harder on them.

Gotta be careful with Lithium batteries. Don't want them getting too hot. If they start to puff up, seriously consider replacing them. They could basically spontaneously combust and catch fire. Plus, it is a chemical reaction fire. Hard to put out even with a fire extinguisher. If it happens its best to just let it burn out.

I keep all of my Lithium batteries for my RC Helicopters, Planes and Cars in a fire safe case made specifically for Lithium batteries, such as a BatSafe.

lol I do the exact same thing with my RC batteries. They are a little more volatile then most jump packs. Jump packs are usually lithium-ion, Rc batteries are LIPO. But even RC batteries usually only have a thermal runaway when charging or discharging. That or if they get a puncture. I converted a gun cabinet into a charge and storage cabinet for mine. Lined it with a few layers of cement board and added a thermal switch that cuts the power if it gets hot inside the cabinet LIPO batteries are no joke. Definity wouldn't want to leave those charging unattended or under the back seat of my truck. I know people who will only charge them in their driveway.

Now be honest...are you looking to file an insurance claim after the ZR2 catches fire so you don't have to deal with the engine replacement

Yeah, you can’t play around with LiPo batteries. I have a lot of RC batteries. Have 3 BatSafe's that I keep them in, but I usually charge them only on concrete porch. Not taking a chance burning down my house.
