Removable Assist Steps

How do you plan on attaching them? An oh BTW welcome, nice work.
The slots cut into my step align with the mounting location for the assist step sold by GM. I have used a carriage bolt from the outside mounting location through the bracket and my step secured with lock washer and bolt. The angle of the step mates the bottom edge with the mounting bracket for the assist step on the inside, so the contact points are the top of the rock slider and the bottom of the mounting bracket. I hope that explains it? Once I get them finished, I can post detailed pictures. Hopefully by the end of this coming week.

Thanks for the feedback. Everyone has been very welcoming and makes me glad that I have joined the forum.

Thanks. I have not thought about making them for sale. My initial concern would be the shipping as they weigh 8 lbs a piece. I included the drawing so you could take to a local shop to have them fabricated. I can also supply a dxf cad drawing if it makes it easier. If that doesn't work for you, then I could look into it. Let me know.

I realize I left a few dimensions off of the drawing. 😖 I will get a new one posted soon

I found someone local that can make them. I sent you a message with my email address.

Assist steps being cut! Thanks @BisonInCali for sharing the info and files. Hopefully sometime next week I can get them coated and installed.

Shout out to @BisonInCali Got my steps back from the Line-X shop today. They are now mounted and ready for use. I can’t thank @BisonInCali enough for sharing his files and hard work. These sure beat the low hanging removable assist steps the truck came with. The nice part is nothing is permanent. If after I do the Peak 2.25” lift I want to put the assist steps back on, it’s an easy swap.

Wow, they look great and thank you for the shout out. I will hopefully get mine sprayed this weekend. Damn work always gets in the way!!.

@BisonInCali I have the GM steps on my Bison (wife and I are both Hobbit-size), but I'm intrigued by your fab. I'm not super excited about the look of the GM steps...for all the reasons everyone has already stated!

I'm as intrigued as the rest of these cats... Are you planning to post the updated diagram/dimensions, or do you prefer a DM? Thanks!

How do they mount?
They mount with bolts through the holes that the GM assist steps mount. I’ll try to add a picture later today. I used 2-1/2” stainless steel bolts and stainless steel lock nuts. A 2-1/4” bolt would probably work better, but I couldn’t source a 2-1/4” stainless bolt locally.

Sorry, I have been meaning to do it but work is crazy right now. Still trying to get my set coated. I can provide the dxf and/or dwg if you want have them made. That is basically all the fabricator needs. if you want to dm me, I can forward them.

I will say it is still a pretty big step to get on to them. My main issue was having a platform outside to stand on rather than going into the cabin directly or using the top rail. Just something to consider if height is an issue.

FINALLY11111 Well here is the summary. I tried to have my steps coated with Line-x or Rhino and apparently they thought I wanted them gold plated. Price was ridicules in my area, but I know @The_Q was able to get them done at a reasonable price. I went with my original idea and had them powder coated. The powder coater was able to give the finish some texture and I am happy with the result. Here is my cost and parts breakdown:
10 ga black steel laser cut and bent (4 ea)$ 125.00
Powder coating$ 140.00
2-1/2 x 3/8 Black zinc shoulder bolts (8 ea)
3/8 Black zinc washers (16 ea)
3/8 Black zinc lock washers (8 ea)
3/8 Black zinc nuts (8ea)
$ 22.86
Total
$ 287.86

Like I stated before, if you are interested I can provide you a dxf or dwg file you can take to your local fabricator to have them cut and bent. I have no idea what shipping looks like, but if enough people were interested I may be willing to have a batch made. Not sure what to charge, but I am also not counting to retire on this either.

Glad you can finally enjoy your creation. The powder coating looks excellent! Thanks again for sharing the info and files.
