Allison Transmission Valve Body Failure Issue

I might do it outside warranty or if I experienced problems. This transmission is definitely not the Allison's of the past based upon some of the problems.you see.

One of the things I'm worried about with boosting power on this current generation truck, that they don't seem to have the durability that the Duramax and Allison was know for for over two decades.

With the current computer system, they could easily track your driving habits and engine performance data and blame you for oil in the coolant and a smoked transmission and you'd have a $10-15k repair bill.

I've never worried about this stuff in the past, but it does cross my mind now.

That Edge EZ system may be the only "safe way" to get a little more power and no tracking.

Summer of 2027?
Banks says they are just finishing up all of the testing so I think end of this Summer is very realistic. We'll see, but these guys are very good and I'd rather them do it right versus guys like Stealth, Edge, etc. I love the fact they make decisions off of the OBD data and not just two sensors on the MAF and fuel line pressure.

Couldn’t agree more. They’re produce quality without a doubt. Funny thing is their throw away quality is GM go to market with press conference patting each others backs.

Anyone have this done or looked into it?

Yes, I had this kit installed on my Bison for cheap insurance. A little over 600 bucks for install. I've had it in for about 10k miles and have had zero issues. I recommend it to anyone. I don't want my truck sitting at the dealer for weeks or months if I was to have a failure in the transmission.

Who did your install for you? Dealer or independent shop / transmission place?

I had a local mechanic shop here in town (45 minutes east of Dallas, TX) do it. I consulted with them first to see if they could legitimately do it and they did a great job after I decided to go with them. It's a general automotive service shop and they don't specialize in one particular thing. Every transmission shop I called said no.

They sure did. I was very surprised. I called 10 or 12 of them. All of them seemed very reluctant to even attempt it. The install seems very straightforward to me, but I didn't have the time to do it myself.
Thanks for the additional color. I think I'm going to hold off and see how long I'll keep it. My gut is I may keep it until the 2028's come out and I'll still be under warranty then too.

Back during the times of 700R''s and TH400's, your average transmission shop would not install "shift kits" or any other type of performance mods. There were good business reasons for not doing so.... R&Rs were pretty much a set price and predictable. If they did the bench work inhouse, with the same parts and same techs with the same series of units, the outcomes were predictable. Shit worked every time.

Add performance parts into the equation and that comes with variables that may/may not need to be diagnosed...Some of that aftermarket shit doesn't work at all. Add that to the expectations of the person who bought all the hype, and you have a recipe for an unhappy customer.

Some shops cater to the performance enthusiast...But most of them just say no thanks.

This isn't a performance kit but a fix for an inherent design flaw. Regardless, I get what you're saying.

Yeah, that makes sense. I got the sense that they weren't aware of the valve body issue or at least were intimidated by the kit and install. I also think they were scared of installing a kit on a nearly brand new truck with a warranty. I was just happy to find a place that was willing and confidently capable.
