Well, as I've stated, this recall is a moving target. Not sure this latest recall update is common knowledge. However, in this video all the specifics are discussed with specific citations in the recall.

The only remedy GM is providing now is that you will receive a new motor and the oil specification will be 0W20. This specifically targets certain VINs and will evolve to include others as motors and parts are available.

You can see the remedy at 6:00 and motor oil spec specifically discussed in the video at 10:30.

Your vehicle cannot be bought traded or sold by any dealer until remedy is satisfied. You basically own a vehicle worth $0. Probably wouldn't prevent a private sale.

Wouldnt this all depend on which recall your vehicle falls under? There are three different versions running around right now and have been for a while.. On top of that, we know GM is not about to replace 700K engines. I am still betting it's going to go the way of if your shit aint broke right now, youll get an oil change and a pat on the ass with an extended warranty. LOL Granted I could be wrong and GM could do the right thing and replace all of them, but I doubt it.

It's got a lot of layers.

I read it as everyone is even getting a new motor as they move the VINs to open status. Oil changes don't fix damaged parts.

Also, I think they figured out they can't just buck emissions laws that governed those vehicles when they were sold.

They obviously figured out they can't survive killing families. Nobody likes dead babies!

My understanding is different vehicles will fall under the different recalls based on Vin. Basically some will get new engines, some will get oil and a new cap with an extended warranty assuming they don’t have a specific code already. GM isn't going to replace 700k engines. Atleast not all at once. I'm guessing that's the point of the thicker oil and extended warranty deal. Kick the can down the road kind of deal. Last I heard Toyota still has lots of that 100k engines left on their recall. It took chevy years to complete the battery recall on the bolts. 700k engine replacement would be a monumental task and would take them years.

I believe they will all get replaced in due time (years), since they've admitted the motors are a liability. Supposedly it wasn't supposed to be announced until June. That's why it's such an information CF right now. More VINs will be opened as the process unfolds.

GM has been screwing customers so long, they have the cash to complete the work. What your seeing now is the evolution of the economics and political games that only the big boys get to play.

The negotiations are complete with the Wall Street hedge funds, the regulators, and the UAW masters like the extra work for union members. Everyone has agreed to the deal and cash transactions to buy cooperation will be quiet and continue for some time in the future. You got good lobbyists and politicians, you have no real problems.

Remember, the next time you buy a Chevy you will be contributing to these shenanigans. GM won't absorb all the costs. What model will you blindly buy?

Toyota doesn't count cause they ain't union nor "American". This is a lot more like Takata than anything else, because people may die. Remember, when you lose power, you lose propulsion, steering and braking, then it's you and Jesus!

Some more good info here in this video. The consensus from these industry experts is it's a total disaster and no way to know what engines have the bad cranks. Ultimately, some may have had a quick polish to bring them into spec before install, but they are subject to fail cause they were out of spec from production factory in Mexico. No good way to fix it and not enough oil to make it better. At 57:00 they discuss that they believe that GM will eventually fix all motors. The GM tech says he believes it could be a 10 year process.....craziness!
