Bourbon Talk

I’m not normally a whistle pig fan, but this one is much more “rustic” if that makes sense. So for my pallet it really fits in with what I love.

A couple of years ago I stumbled into a bottle of whistle pig 15yr. By far my favorite of that line up. The boss hog was a special treat once at a tasting but not willing to pay $800 for the bottle.

I don’t think I’ve ever had a manhattan. I can get into an Old Fashioned every once in a while. May have to give that a try. Better with a rye than a bourbon you think?
I think rye makes the best Manhattan. The brand of sweet vermouth also makes a difference in taste. I like the Manhattan best cause it doesn't taste too sweet and has some bit.

My recipe is:

2 shots of Bulliet rye
1 shot of Rossi sweet vermouth
1 Dash of Scrappys Angustra bitters
1 shot of Scrappys orange bitters (you can use a fresh orange peel twist instead)
1 cherry
Pour over ice, stir, strain into chilled highball glass

I’m not much of a mixed drink guy, but I’ll give that a shot. When I do have a mixed, this is what it is:

1 heavy handed pour, whiskey of choice
1 assortment of ice
I dont drink too many mixed drinks either. Mostly cause I can't drink a lot of sweet stuff. If I do, I like something with little sour or tartness. There's a couple whisky drinks with citrus I like, like whisky sour or whisky smash. I usually only get those type of things at a restaurant.

Daily: Four Roses Small Batch
Shelf: Blantons
I like the 4 roses single barrel; not sure I've had the small batch. I like Blantons too especially when my local winn dixie gets it for $80/bottle. I hate paying 3rd party prices.

the only reason I'm still on the hunt for blantons is the toppers. much better juice on the market for that price.

Four Roses small batch has a little more bite. I feel like it hits like Knob Creek 100. Good stuff!

It's been quite sometime since I've picked up a bottle of Knob Creek. Going to look for one of those soon.

Last night we finished the bottle of Fiddler Toasted Barrel. Next purchase I think will be the whole lineup of Fiddler to put together a tasting.
