So, I just got off the line with GM Canada customer service to see when an official notice or would be posted or mailed out about the N252494000 recall, only to be told they're handing out notices in phased stages. That's fine, but I was curious why in all information I've seen published about the L87 recall on American sites it's mentioned that if there is no need to replace the motor that there would be the oil change to Ow-40 and that the warranty would be extended to ten years. There is currently no notice of that in ANY of the Canadian articles or from GM Canada. When I asked why we weren't given that assurance from GM Canada they said "That at this time they wanted to focus on a solution to the issue and that there MAY be an extension of some kind in the future." (I'm paraphrasing).

So, to the Canadian L87 owners out there, it looks like we're going to have to create a class action lawsuit to get GM to honour their commitment that they've promised the American customers. This is horseshit, but I'm not even a little surprised. Anyone know the next steps we could collectively take?

I'm not really sure of the reasons why, but in my many years of warranty and service contract administration, producers of almost every kind of product have treated warranties very different in Canada. And, when Canadian goods come down here without going through official export channels, we call them "Grey Market" and don't honor the warranty at all. Makes no sense to me.
