AMEN!Nothing of consequence here! Just fill the fucking DEF tank when you fill up your fuel tank. I've never heard anyone complain about running out of DEF and if you do, its your fault.
The reason the DEF system is a problem is unreliable parts failures throwing your motor into limp mode without warning. Bad sensors and DEF quality are the primary issues. The only way to eliminate the problem is eliminate the system or at the least give a driver 300 miles before it goes into limp mode when the sensor fails or poor quality DEF is detected.
I've had three emissions related problems on previous DEF truck. Bad DEF Temp Sensor, bad NOX sensor, and bad 9th injector. All three sent me into limp mode with no warning or time to react. Only thing that saved me was clearing the code and getting to the dealer. All fixed under warranty.
My Dad had to replace an entire DEF tank assembly on his low mileage Ram when it started burning excessive DEF. Used 5 gallons of DEF getting to the dealer 100 miles away. No warranty had to fork out $1500.
The DEF system is ripe for failure and unreliable, as well as expensive to install, operate, and maintain for little environmental benefit.
