Do the Silverado ZR2 and ZR2 Bison have the exact same shocks/suspension?

I am either going to get a Trail Boss/ZR2/Bison...I am not concerned with price, I just want the smoothest ride..mainly around town...pot holes, speed bumps, etc.

The bison package is just skid plates and bumpers. Exact same suspension on both. For just around town definitely not much point in paying the extra for the package unless you just really like the AEV bumpers.

Smooth is subjective as well. Are you trying to be able to navigate horrible roads without damage to the vehicle or is it that you want your ass and spine to not feel the impact.

I am 50 years old and I want the Silverado that drive the most like my grandpa's Cadilac around town..
I've got a few years on you, so from my perspective it's smoother than my Wrangler Rubicon, but not as smooth as my wife's Expedition. I'll add that I live in a very rural area where the term road is used loosely. I won't slow down to avoid holes, ruts, or anything like that in my rig. In her truck, if I do manage to hit something it's no where near as jarring.

I'll let others chime in, but the ZR2 is't really designed as a soft ride kinda truck. It's designed for harsher than avg terrain without breaking anything.

  • AEV® front chassis skid plate
  • AEV® transfer case skid plate
  • AEV® rear differential skid plate
  • AEV® fuel tank skid plate
  • AEV® front and rear stamped steel bumper with heavy-duty cast recovery points
  • Multi-Flex tailgate
  • 18-inch Gloss Black AEV® wheels
  • 18-inch AEV® aluminum spare wheel
  • Rocker protection
  • AEV headrest logos
  • AEV® branded floor liners
My Bison package I believe was $6900.
The unique wheels and multiflex tailgate were worth it
I didn't like the gloss black bumpers on the standard ZR2. I could see the front one chipping over time

1500 ZR2 is very smooth. It rides more like a car then a truck. It is a smoother ride then a High country or a Denali hands down. You can also hit speed bumps and railroad tracks at high speed and not spill your coffee, lol. Downside of course is the suspension is very soft for a truck. So if you tow\haul much of anything, squat can be a problem. If you buy a trail boss, expect to put shocks on it. Stock Rancho shocks aren't good. Pretty sure the springs are heavier rate also. I doubt it would be much cheaper to get a loaded trail boss and upgrade all the suspension to a ZR2's level.

Wasn't knocking it. But that's a long way of saying different bumpers, skids and rims, lol. I did forget about the different style 18" rims. They all have a matching spare. Both my Non bison ZR2s had multiflex tailgate. I think for the new ones it's now standard and the power up/down is a option. Personally I'm just not a fan of the AEV wheels or the bumpers. But yeah if you like the AEV package, it makes sense to get it.

I had a 2019 TB with only the 5.3L. I took it off road in Colorado and I think I killed the shocks, it was squeaking bad. I never changed them (too lazy and cheap). I’ve always wanted the heavy stronger front/back bumpers and didn’t have to pay for it. Love my Bison. My 2 cents before they stop making pennies.

If you are wanting a 'floaty' ride and price isn't a factor, check out the Raptor, TRX or RHO. All of them have long travel suspensions and kind of float over rough terrain. The downside is their cargo capacity and trailer weight is really bad.
Actually a F150 raptor has very similar payload and towing. A friend of mine just bought a Tremor with a 5.0, but he looked at a F150 Raptor too. I think the one he test drove was rated at 8200 towing and like 1350 payload. A 25 ZR2 is rated 8700. I was surprised how close they were with a long travel. Tremor is rated for a lot more. But it rides about like a trailboss. His Tremor does have a selectable rear locker though. Not sure why Chevy only offers that on a ZR2 🙄

Suspension on “Baja” and Steering on “rocks” is a Cadillac Deville.
