First impression 0w-40

Long time member. Enjoy all the post. A little history. 2022 Zr2. 41,000 miles. Zero problems. Changed oil first 500 miles. Change every 4000 miles. Mobile one 0w-20. Transmission flushed at 35,000 miles. Very well maintained. Off road sometimes. Use 4 wheel drive and lockers. Changed to 0w-40 mobile one supercar. First impression. Engine definitely more quite and feels smoother. Gas mileage did improve. Drive the same 12 route mile alot, average speed 45 mph. Was averaging 19 - 21 mpg. New oil average 24 -25 mpg. I was shocked. I question using thinner oil for better mpg.

I do not. I was told by a GM tech years ago. Do not follow the oil life gauge. Just my opinion. I believe a lot of issues are oil related. Extremely important change oil first 1000 miles. I opened my oil filter, pretty bad. I also believe 0w - 20 is fine. However it loses velocity over time and with direct injection oil gets even thinner with fuel. My opinion over time the oil gets to thin, loses its ability for proper lubrication. I would be curious to see how many miles between oil changes on failed engines. Some engines have failed with new oil. Happens, going to get that. I am sticking with 0w-40. Oil doesn't go bad. Gets dirty.

I’m trying to follow the gm logic. GM is worried about more engines blowing or at least slowing down the rate of detonation of engines. How are they doing this? Saying to put 0-40 in them. Why? GM must believe it’s superior to the 0-20? Then they tell everyone else to keep using 0-20? If they believe it’s superior and will prolong the life of some of the engines out there why wouldn’t they tell all 6.2 owners to use 0-40? I’ve spent some time and money changing oil in this truck starting at 970 miles knowing of the defects. My truck runs great and doesn’t burn a drop of oil. Given I live in a warm climate I think I’m going to switch even if they don’t put it in my truck next oil change. Or maybe my truck blows up today and I don’t have to think about this anymore?

There logic is they don't want these trucks or any vehicles to last long. They make no money unless we buy new ones.
