With regard to the exterior design, the 2022 Chevy Silverado ZR2 hits the road with a new high-approach steel front bumper and removable end caps. Not only does the revised styling give the Silverado ZR2 extra visual punch, but it also provides an improved 31.8-degree approach angle, making it that much more potent off-road.
The rolling gear complements the new fascia with 18-inch off-roading alloy wheels, which are wrapped by 33-inch Goodyear Wrangler Territory tires. In back, the dual exhaust terminates behind the rear bumper, thus reducing the odds the pipes will be damaged while rock crawling. Underneath the rig, the pickup sports a set of sturdy skid plates.
Further exterior features include ZR2 badging, a new black hood insert, and a unique grille treatment with a “flow-tie” emblem and integrated lighting elements.
Keeping it shiny side up is a set of advanced Multimatic DSSV dampers, which come with three fluid flow chambers and three separate spool valves for enhanced damping control. The dampers pair with retuned springs and work to maximize front and rear suspension travel.
As for the powertrain and drivetrain, the 2022 Chevy Silverado ZR2 is only available with the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 L87 gasoline engine, rated at 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque. The V8 mates to a standard GM 10-speed automatic transmission and standard four-wheel drive, with Terrain Mode equipped as standard for one-pedal driving. Max payload is rated at 1,440 pounds, while the conventional trailer weight rating is 8,900 pounds.
Inside the cabin, the Chevy Silverado ZR2 sports the a fully overhauled interior space, with a standard 13.4-inch color touchscreen and 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. The only body configuration on offer is the four-door Crew Cab.
