So, I ran into a little issue with the multiflex tailgate. I was unlocking the upper tailgate and it jammed when it opened. After a few minutes, I found out what was causing the problem - the pin on the driver's side has worked itself loose and it's moving so much that the latch can't unlock. I pulled off the inner cover inside the step (I've got lights there) and I can feel the nut and the bolt, but it's backed itself out so much that I can't get a grip on the threads to run it back in. There's not enough space to get even a slim pair of pliers between the inner and outer tailgates to tighten it back up (see the bolt circled below).

Anyone got any ideas?

It's not the pin on the outer tailgate, it's the inner tailgate. That picture is looking at the latch in between the outer and inner tailgates.

Might have to pull the tailgate protector off and go in that way.

Don't know your mileage or what your warranty status is but.....Dealership warranty repair?

Yep, if you tear apart the cover and break the clips and bend the plastic, then its your problem. A lot of the clips on this shiity plastic are sacrificial and you have to replace them.

You sir have a regular tailgate now.

If you can reach the release latch on the inner tailgate step, open that up and you can get to the backside of that bolt through the square openings.

I would go take a pic for you right meow but its -1,000 the grease outside

yeah it’s 15* with a windchill of -2, and we’re in the middle of getting around 15” of snow and sleet.. it can be a regular tailgate for a while. I’ve got an extended warranty on it, so if I can’t get a slim pair of pliers or a wrench in there to tighten it enough to get it to unlatch, I’ll just take it to the dealer and have them fix it.
