Hi All, my 1500 ZR2 came with the Rocker Guards. Anyone else added the Removable Assist Steps to the Rocker Guards? How do you like them? How about the look? These things are a bit pricey IMO, but I am considering adding them. The women (mother, wife, daughter) in my life struggle to climb in this truck w/o some steps.

i like the running board look. few guys here sold their guards. use the search. good luck.

I saw a video the other day, the guy had the full rock slider with steps on his truck, looked pretty weird IMHO, they stuck out very far, and hung down pretty low, I looked to see if I could find the youtube video again but I couldn't. It was a guy I hadn't seen before and can't remember the name or anything, I looked through my history but can't seem to find it. That being said, this could be a time when functionality kinda trumps first visual impressions and I might still consider them in your shoes... until I remember the price, and then, nope. I picked up a set of rock sliders from a member here that were take offs from his Bison for the exact reason as your issue, wife, kids and mom couldn't get into the truck very well so he put on assist steps, when I go rocking I will pull my assist steps and put on the rock sliders, but for now they sit patiently waiting for the day they get used.

This was at one of the dealers by me last year. They look a bit wanky IMHO but functional I guess you can say.

Yeah I couldn’t stomach the price and they do stick out far, so I got the N-Fab podium steps, sold my sliders and pocketed the difference.

Wow. I’d like to see them in person. MyChevy app says $1500. I’m thinking I’d rather get the power steps.

So this is my first posting in any forum, so be kind.

I also could not stomach the high price for the assist steps and did not want to go through the hassle of replacing my rock sliders. I know I could sell the ones on the truck and put the money towards a very good solution. I was also not crazy about removing the assist step when I take the truck off road, so I thought I would take a little time and money to see what I could come up with. So here it is fabricated and unfinished for $120.00 for all four. They utilize the same mounting bracket for the assist step. Just thought I would share in the true spirit of being a part of a forum. I am interested in feedback. I know this solution is not for everyone and I could have gone even further with the design to make it fit/blend even better, but I am satisfied with the result. I rather get out and enjoy the truck rather then dwelling over the details. Hope this is of some interest.

They are 10ga black steel and will be powder coated next.

I’d possibly be a buyer if you’re interested in making another set. My truck came with the rock sliders and the removable assist steps. I think the assist steps are a little too big and hang too far out. Your solution looks great!

Oh, and great first post. Welcome to the ZR2 family.

Welcome to the forum! You posted a picture and a solution on your first go 👍 nicely done.

I think that’s a much better solution than GM came up with. Just like you said get out and enjoy it!

Thanks. I have not thought about making them for sale. My initial concern would be the shipping as they weigh 8 lbs a piece. I included the drawing so you could take to a local shop to have them fabricated. I can also supply a dxf cad drawing if it makes it easier. If that doesn't work for you, then I could look into it. Let me know.

I realize I left a few dimensions off of the drawing. 😖 I will get a new one posted soon

Excellent work! Are you gonna Line X them?

I've also used Herculiner and Raptor Liner for great DIY appearance on smaller applications
I was thinking powder coat to match the rail, but Line X might sounds like a very good idea. I will call this week on powder coating, but you may have changed my mind. I like the idea of better anti-slip. Thank you for the feedback. Just what I was hoping for
