6.2 Recall Letter

They had another ECU and pulled the range module and did the reprogramming. I'll be picking it up in the morning.

They did say the range DFM module contributed to the bricked ECU. But said they would warranty the part. I've always had a good relationship with the dealer and SA, so I suspect they went to bat for me here and I appreciate that.

I'm not so sure it did cause the issue, cause there's plenty of examples of them bricking during updates. Also I've had it in twice for other updates and told them it was installied. However, I will accept my share of the responsibility because I knew they were going to update the ECU cause he told me so when I checked it in. I should have reminded him it was in there. I also knew that Range recommends removing it for any work done using the OBD II port, which is basically everything nowadays. I should have pulled it and played it safe. So I'll own it!

Also found out that the Tahoe will not require the ECU update. I guess its VIN specific. But I'll plan to remove it anyway cause it only takes a few minutes.......live and learn.

If you have a good rapport with your SA it is always good to let them know any modifications you've made. I've always told mine when I brought it in, but never had an ECU update either...so I guess that's that eh... Anyway glad you got it squared away and happy for you that they took care of it 👍 I disconnected absolutely everything aftermarket that was installed when they ran the Pico test on mine. Any other time when I brought it in and had any other work done....I've just left my Range disabler on also, but made sure they knew where it was and how easy it was to remove. You dodged the bullet on this one 👍

I got my letter 3 weeks ago but still haven't had the time to take my truck in for the pico test and service. Will do it soon.

Took mine in last week, got a clean bill of health. Got the filler cap, and the sticker and a 10 year warranty. Personally, I’m glad I passed as I needed my truck because I was moving into a new home, but I’d be lying if I secretly didn’t want a new motor. Either way, I’m sorry to hear some of you guys have been having some negative experiences with this ongoing situation.

The test is designed to appease the NHTSA. You may still get a new motor with time. No one is “in the clear” with a passing pico scope. The extended warranty is the only thing of value. Does anyone know if the warranty terms are transferable to the next owner? That would certainly help our resale.

Sweet! Thank you for the heads up!
I went to the dealership first thing this morning when they opened, and brought this up that no letter was needed anymore. We called GM and that is not the case. You must still wait for your follow up letter, and that mine still shows no remedy available. I have to keep waiting, cause they are doing them in VIN batches.

I hadn't received my "open" letter yet. Though my dealership was able to request my recall be opened through some app they have on their phones. I'm assuming it was allowed due to my truck being there for prior service.

I had a long conversation with Maines Largest dealer and I quote " GM will only cover 80 % of the bill if a motor goes within the warranty period Only if you have valid proof that your vehicle was serviced on time by a GM service station. All vehicles serviced by the owner at other places will only get 20% coverage and must prove that service was performed on time." Then he went on to say it's 80/30 and he said it twice. What a crock of shit!
The fucking SM is a piece of shit and a moron!
Then I asked him how much is the current cost of an oil change.. 220.00.
My cost today is still under 100.00 if I do it myself

Interesting! I think that will be the case for anybody that is tuning or deleting. These things are so complicated that they won't even be able to run diagnostics once you start messing with the ecu and electronics.

I'm still contemplating if and how I want to delete my 2500HD, but it looks very expensive and not sure how it will turn out in the end with respect to reliability/warranty. If you tune, delete, and smoke the transmission, it just cost you $10k to run that experiment.

The 2500 are a no brainer and there is tons of reliable stuff to choose from, the 1500 is lock right up..
But an issues arise then depending on your dealership you may be on your own.
