Lug nut cutting

I did on my 1500. I just used a angle grinder with a cutoff wheel. It zipped right trough them. You can see how much i removed by the piece on top of the spacer. I followed up with a chamfer bit on the studs after I cut them to round them off.

I did mine almost exactly same way after I read your post about a year ago. The only things I did differently was I put the nuts on the lugs before I cut to be able to clear / rethread the threads when i backed them off. I also put a wet rag on the lugs as I cut to help absorb some of the heat from cutting.

If you don't control heat, you don't have the same temper as stock.

You would have to heat them up 500+ degrees to screw up the temper. No different then grinding on a knife. When I cut mine I moved around to different ones cutting a little at a time. They never really got very hot at all.
 
I'd like to bet the brake rotor throws more heat into those studs than a cutoff wheel does, because the cutoff wheel is abrasive and the heat-affected material is being expelled from the surface.
 
Why chance it....take about 10 seconds and throw a wet rag on it, cut it and call it a day. Or if you prefer not to do it, don't. It's cool either way.
There is an alternative. I do this when fireforming brass for my rifle barrels on the outside of the chamber area with a fast burning pistol powder with no bullet. Use a can of compressed air turn it upside down and it comes out as a liquid at over 100 degrees below zero. Will not take much to take the heat out of this small amount of mass from a wheel stud.
