New ‘22 ZR2 Owner (potentially)

@Zee-Are-Deuce

Bottom line....
#1 MOST IMPORTANT....GET A RANGE DFM DISABLER THAT MOUNTS in back DRIVER WHEEL WELL....(BEFORE ANY OTHER PRODUCTS)

#2GET AN OIL CATCH CAN SYSTEM...J&L is what I use.
(You'll be dumbfounded how much garbage this engine dumps back into the intake) 🤔🤔🤔

#3.....change oil every 2-4k (your preference) with high quality synthetics. @AXE has EXTENSIVE oil analysis posts regarding different variations that is outstanding proof for a 2-3 k oil change interval.
... I USE Pennzoil ultra Platinum & Lucas synthetic Stabilizer EVERY CHANGE. High quality filter OEM K&N.....ECT ....no FRAM or junk aftermarket

#4 change your fluids when needed (1/3 of GM suggests) brake, coolant, trans, diffs, transfer case....more frequently if off-roading lots.
REMEMBER THAT a TRANS FLUSH IS MUCH DIFFERENT THAN a TRANS- PAN DROP & FILTER CHANGE. 13-15 QTS for flush... compared to 3-5 QTS for pan & filter. They are much different!
Buy AFTERMARKET MAGNETS for all transmission parts of you like.
These 10 speed transmissions are known for value body issues occasionally. If you change the filter as opposed to a flush, it can help remove some of the larger deposits without jamming the value body. A flush does not change the filter!!!

#5 change engine air & cabin filters... 1/2 of what GM suggests USE OFFROAD style engine air with 3 levels or more protection if OFF-ROADING lots.....NO COLD AIR INTAKE OR OILED FILTERS!

#6 run high quality top tier (there is a difference) HIGHEST OCTANE fuel & a scientifically proven quality octane booster.... like, VP Racing (Unleaded version) and a fuel system deep clean ever 3k miles. These trucks are known for fuel pump issues occasionally.

#7 DO MAINTENANCE LIKE GOING TO CHURCH! NO EXCEPTIONS!!!
Take care of the rest of the systems like A/C coolant purge-clean-refill every 3-5 yrs .....much more frequently if living in humid climate (2yrs) tires, alignments, brakes, rotors, ECT....
FYI ....YOU CAN TURN THE STOCK ROTORS TWO TIMES BEFORE REPLACEMENT (*assuming you change them before they grind metal to metal.... Indicator said about 15-20 % on my fronts before I changed & turned them @45k)

Take care of your truck and it will take care of you! REGARDLESS OF ALL THE TALK AND HYPE ABOUT THESE TRUCKS AND ENGINES THESE ARE ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC TRUCKS IF YOU TAKE CARE OF THEM PROPERLY!

Thanks man! Your post is actually what motivated me to do the transfer and diff fluid changes! I’ve always been a truck guy but have never been able to afford a truck that I want. This is honestly a surreal moment for me and I plan on taking care of this truck. Excited to finally get to do truck stuff! Carrying lumber and taking the Jetta off road definitely got me some weird looks 😂
The #1 neglected items on a lot of 4x4 trucks is the transfer case and differentials (especially the rear). They are relatively easy to change and the fluids are not that expensive if you shop around.

I know for a fact that some guys won't bother changing any fluids besides oil.

Well guys, I did it! Picked the truck up yesterday and drove it 8 hours to NC. Talk about a HUGE upgrade from my Jetta 😂 I went from not having cruise control to having every bell and whistle on this thing! 2022 with 62k miles. Thanks to an unnamed source, I know the engine was replaced at 56k miles, the valve body was replaced in the transmission, dealer said torque converter was replaced, and overall, it seems like a pretty reliable truck!

I gotta say, this thing hauls ass!! First order of business is an oil change, DFM/auto start delete, and transfer case/diff fluid changes. I’d like to get an exhaust down the road but I’ve read that could void the 150k warranty.

Another good point that someone brought up was changing my own oil might void the warranty (I planned on only using dexos oil). I feel fairly confident that isn’t the case, with all the DIY’ers in this group.
Awesome truck, I have a 2022 as well and at 61K miles my valvle body was replaced as well as the torque converter. Can't say I got a new engine (yet) but it sure does haul ass. For exhaust I swapped out the factory muffler for a borla and that was all I needed, and was told it won't affect warranty other than anything past the muffler.
