Archoil diesel fuel additive…

I think my big jug of Opti-Lube XL is getting close to empty. Maybe I'll run a few tanks of Archie to see what happens. My driving is so variable, that I'm not sure I'd ever know if it helped with mileage or regens. I get 8-18 mpg, so I just roll with it.

I used to track regens all the time. I barely even noticed one occur on this truck. I think the only one that sticks in my mind was a regen pulling some steep grades and I knew it was down on power. Really had to keep my foot in it and i was seeing 5.8 mpg.....LMFAO

I was hoping for better EPA response on deletes but it ain't coming. We have emissions testing after year 5 round these parts. I might just do an emissions in tact tune and call it a day. Then hipe they eliminate the bullshit in the next generation.
I miss the LB7 days. Shove fuel in the tank and mash the gas. Simple maintenance and it kept going for a million plus.

I’d bet money we never see the EPA move backwards on emissions equipment. Also too many individual states that would not accept that. Not saying they should or shouldn’t, just personally don’t believe we will ever see the requirements for it reversed.

I’d be willing to pay a “climate tax” to delete…not really any different than the politicians like Al Gore (who led the charge on most of this stuff) buying climate credits…the real hypocrisy is government and military vehicles being exempt from the emissions equipment. A classic do what I say, not what I do.

I'd rather throw the tea in the harbor and overthrow the government.......seems like a lot more fun and more rewarding.

Lemme know when and where I’ll be there and bring some friends.
Ahhhh.......the Spirit of 76 is a live and well!
We'll see what kind of election shenanigans happen in 2026 and 2028. I feel like that might be the catalyst. If not by then, I'll be reduced to some boomer waiting on SS check and hollering "get off my lawn"!

Have only commuted into the office a couple of times on this tank, but still looking better than previously. Got a couple of hunting trips coming up that’ll burn through another tank of fuel and will update then.

Only thing I can think of is boosted cetane. Referring back to one of my earlier posts… here on the gulf coast, we have the option to export diesel at higher specs for a premium over domestic pricing, but those destinations require higher cetane than the US (due to more light duty diesel engines). Maybe I see more benefit because I am starting at a lower cetane in the diesel I buy here (higher cetane bbls being shipped elsewhere, lower cetane bbls staying in the domestic market). A cetane booster will do more with a lower starting cetane than higher. So if you live more inland, maybe the cetane is starting a good bit higher (no reason to segregate higher cetane bbls, and also more parrafinic crudes being run which give better cetane than heavy, more aromatic crudes). Just a thought…

I know some of the stations sell premium diesel and I assume it has better cetane and additives. Maybe I should run some and see.

I buy most of my fuel from Shell at Fry's grocery store (Kroeger) for the discount. However, when I'm on the road its a grab bag and I've never seen much of a performance difference.

Can’t say I’ver ever seen “premium diesel” anywhere I’ve filled up any of my diesel trucks (but that would be limited to AR/OK/LA/TX).

Quick update…

About 7k miles of using Archoil and still seeing 1-1.5mpg improvement - have set new “records” on my best 25/50/450 mile averages. Last two regens were both right around 820miles (one slightly under, one slightly over) - never saw better than 750ish prior to Archoil.

I see the same and SUPER happy with Archoil AR6500 and AR6400-D

I switched over, seeing one regen per tank of diesel…70% highway / 30% city - still think mine regens way too much

I ran a jug of Hot Shots Secret through mine over the last several weeks and didn't see any difference. That being said, I towed almost 2000 miles at 65-75 mph, so it doesn't really matter much. That's why I don't get to excited about mileage, it just doesn't mean much in the big scheme of operating a 9000 lb truck. If you do 500 miles of towing your 3000 miles of running decent mileage is lost. Same if you run into the wind, its just all wasted.

If you want a better investment and use of your time, you should switch over to Chevron (stock). My mileage had been exemplary with it over the years.

It's up after 4Q earnings and has a long way to run if the broader economy doesn't collapse. It pays over 4% dividend yield and trades at 25 P/E.

Dividends will.pay for your fuel...........YMMV.....LOL

If your towing, these things drink DEF!

May also want to change your fuel source and see if it gets better.

I just got into my thirsty pig and pulled these stats. I always let my Trip 2 serve as my rolling average and it's 11 mpg. You can see it's pretty horrible, and yet its not hard for me to get 16-20 mpg in normal to ideal conditions.

I’m up close to 30% on my last CVX purchases (includes dividends), and about the same on XOM. Bought both less than a year ago.

This all just an unexpected result from changing additives to improve lubricity (based on some online tests). The mpg and fewer regens are a bonus.
