Coolant smell is slowly becoming annoying

3,500 miles and 2.5 quarts low. Back to the dealer on Monday. “Duramaxes love their oil like captains love their rum.” “Why is that CaptCUNextTues?” “Nobody knows…

GM, “Got to expect losses.” Captain Ron quotes are the only thing that help
I can't believe they haven't been able to resolve this issue. Tell them you want a different truck.

I believe there was, and is, more going on than the oil cooler. All the other oil cooler failures show oil and coolant over flowing from the reservoir. My oil and coolant were way low when I noticed the problem. Literally happened in less than than 1,500 miles, the first time around.

At the least I'd want a new engine at this point. I can't imagine the coolant and oil mixing like that repeatedly is good for the engine long term. If its not leaking or overflowing, but they are both getting low. That means its going through the engine 😮 wonder what your DPF looks like.

I don’t think oil is still entering the coolant currently. The coolant reservoir is collecting remnants still leftover in the system, including the heater core that was not replaced. Coolant level appears good, however the oil is going somewhere, most likely being disguised by my DPF

Yep, coolant in the oil damaged the rings/cylinder and now it's burning diesel and oil. It ain't evaporating or leaking, it's padding through the combustion chamber. It won't get better from here.
