Hello,
New to the forum. Purchased a 23 1500 6.2l a few weeks ago so it I am still getting used to the truck. My question is relating to the transmission and the temperature it should be running at. It's starting to get colder here and I leave for work at 5am. I remote start the truck and let it run between 8-10 minutes before leaving. My commute is about 20 minutes long with a mix of highway, freeway. I am generally cruising between 40mph and 70mph. The trans temp gauge usually doesn't get above 105 degrees during the commute. On the way home, it will get around 120's. I am mechanically inclined and know that typically transmissions run in the 170 range. It seems this is effecting my mpg a tad (not that that's why I bought the truck), but during running around town errands on weekends when the trans gets warmer, I can get up to about 19mpg. But on my morning commute it's about 16mpg. I feel that maybe I should look into getting an inline thermostat so it warms up a little quicker. Any thoughts? What are you guys running temp wise? Is GM still using calculations on their gauge readings? I know on my Camaro, that's a huge thing that they take a lot of variables to calculate what the temp may be, rather than just having it read temp. Thank you all!
