6.2L Engine replacement

Hey all, long time lurker, first time poster. I've been following the thread in the Talk forum more closely and just came across this one today. I brought my truck in on Saturday for service and was told that I'll be needing a new engine. SA has been vague on timeline or details but finally got me a loaner today.

Apologies if I missed it, but I was wondering if any forum members have had their engine replaced after the recall and what kind of timeline they were given? I know there were some members on the other thread in the Talk forum that passed the inspection but didn't see anyone on that or this forum who failed the inspection.
took 2 months for me to get mine back but that was before the recall kicked in (last July-August). dealers were hoarding the engines even then, though. my dealer had told me they found several engines in other dealership inventories but nobody would give them up because they had more trucks sitting on the lot that needed an engine than they had engines.

Thank you guys. I'll keep you posted on what my timeline looks like when I get an update. 12,400 miles on my 2024 with first oil changes at 1,500, 3,000 and 4,000 mile intervals FWIW.

I will give GM some credit for this pre-emptive warranty. At least your not flying down the road where safety is a concern and you're far from home.

I am currently doing their "oil consumption test" per the dealer's requirements when I told them how much oil I was burning. They said I should expect my number to come up soon in the pipeline, and when it does, they can then also charge GM to do a camera scope for shavings. Curious if they are required to give you a loaner, and also curious if said loaner will be a malibu that will do me no good.

Any signs your engine was faulty
Nothing that was obvious to me anyway. Seemed fine up until the day I brought it in. There were some irregular sounds here and there, but nothing consistent or strange/loud enough to warrant me bringing it in.

I actually scheduled a inspection for the recall shortly after it was released because it was showing on the the My Chevy app, only to be told by the dealer they had no remedy and therefore didn't perform an inspection at that time.

I spoke to my dealership and GM customer service this morning and confirmed that an order was placed for my engine. I was also told by GM customer service that inventory was available for my replacement but no ETA on when the engine would ship is available yet. I would hope that if inventory is available that it should ship soon. Per my local dealership, they've performed 3 replacements so and averaged about 2 weeks from inspection to replacement. I'm in downstate NY FWIW.

Carfax for a fee.......don't look back!
You’re probably right about not looking back. But curiosity. I hope the early and frequent oil changes I did makes a difference for the next owner.
Two things about the 25. I seems to idle smoother and there’s no “squeak” after start up. The last time I remote started my zr2 the squeak was louder than I’ve heard before. Maybe that’s just a belt thing? Maybe not. I don’t think anyone has ever definitively figured out what that sound is. Belt, pulley, I don’t know.

Mine has some metallic sound at start up for about 10 or so seconds. I read there was a TSB saying normal...ok. At the end of the day, per GM, mine passed their amazing test so I am good right? :D

You got 0-40, an oil cap, and 10 year 150k warranty now?

I would be watching what gm does with that. I see the 10 yr 150k warranty being something gm seems to not have finalized yet. Hope you get 300k trouble free miles out of it!

The only time I like a metallic sound is when I'm cutting pipe with a 20k rpm cut off wheel. You're gonna win that poll for sure!

According to dealer, my VIN is not even on the recall list yet. So even though they had my truck for 7 weeks this Spring rebuilding the engine, I don't qualify for the inspection or the oil change. They are sticking to their story that it was a bad valve set (that caused so much damage that they had to replace a piston and rod).

I bought the Range AFM/DFM delete module in hopes that running all 8 cylinders all the time might help , but haven't installed it yet awaiting recall eligibility.

I have the junk engine in my truck with a recall and I've been to three dealers all stating issues. But all three said and I quote drive it till it blows up....wow what a fucked up company
So to your question I'd have to say it's probably going to prolong it's life!
Keeping fair oil pressure.
