Blackstone Labs Oil Analysis

You then have the opportunity to take corrective action and reduce the safety concerns associated with this catastrophic failure........that's the whole purpose of the recall and pico test too. While its imperfect, we have already seen several examples of pre-emptive motor replacements.

You could.also decide to sell or trade the vehicle and move on.

Data gives you options!

Pulled another sample on the Tahoe at 1000 miles after the previous sample showed high iron particles. I had switched to Mobil 1 0W40 FS, but haven't completed the recall yet. This oil sample shows really good numbers and no further indication of iron particles like the previous. No real explanation for the previous test, but I'll trust what I see to be good.

I guess I'll now proceed with the recall and have them save the filter so can cut it open for inspection.

Interesting to note the oil additive package definitely looks better during early use compared to a 5k change where it's mostly used up!
I had the recall on the Tahoe done and it passed, so I have no explanation for the previous oil analysis showing larger iron particles. Of course i forgot to ask them to save the filter, so I'll never know if there were any notable particles on that 2K 0W40 change.

Maybe it was just a fluke, but I guess for now I run with it. It sure does seem to run just fine, so hopefully no longer term issues. The Tahoe sure is a nice rig and really hasn't had any issues other than a few recalls

Just got the latest sample back on my 6.2. This was the recall oil change with the swap to 0/40. Blackstone indicated a little lower viscosity most likely due to residual 0/20 in the engine. Otherwise things look to be staying consistent for me. Usage on the dipstick between changes seems to be down a little from my previous changes so hoping that continues to improve as times goes on.

Still a ticking time bomb 💣💣💣

I seen some posts on Bob's The Oil Guy that say the Supercar oil has a slightly lower viscosity than the FS. Not sure if that's hard facts or not, but there's some good info there and some pretty knowledgeable people that post there.

Well, did the Blackstone reports, all looked good in the reports. Brought it in for the recall and change to 0-40. Just did my first change after the dealers, grabbed a sample to send it off to Blackstone but haven't sent it off yet. Over the weekend died at a stoplight and find out today engine is blown from the bearing issue. Still temped to send off the sample to see what they say. But pretty damn disappointing just made it to the first change after the recall and there goes the engine. Didn't have any signs either, was running well.

I would be very interested in the lab analysis from that sample. There's a comment section of the form you fill out. Let them know it blew shortly after the sample was taken and see if they can do any additional analysis.

I guess the pico test and software update to throw an error code if it detected issues isn't worth a shit.

I wouldn't be surprised if they are doing something at the Pico tests to trash the engines purposefully...🤔

Who knows, but I just did my first oil change after my recall was completed. The POS tech that did the work was so bad, I couldn't remove the drain plug or the oil filter. Never seen anything like it and I feel like it was done purposely. Theres no fucking way you can accidentally torque it that much.

On the left is the two tools I normally use to change oil. On the right, is the progression of shit I used to break drain bolt loose. Short breaker bar was a no go, 150 ft/lb mini impact gun was a no go (I've removed a 140 ft lb lug with it on my truck). Long breaker bar second attempt grunting and it loosened. Oil filter crushed and I finally got it to turn. Took about six small turns with filter wrench before I could turn by hand.

It's' why I have trust issues. This dealer has been historically very good for me for service, but this was some real bullshit. I called my service advisor and gave him an earful.

This is why I dont like other people touching my shit if I can help it.
Did the Tahoe too and it was almost as bad. The drain plug was over tight, but not as bad. Oil filter was so loose, I used my finger tips to unscrew it, sort of surprised it didn't leak after 3000 miles.

Guess which one wasn't jacked up? The Duramax, cause nobody else has touched it so far.

That is bullshit Axe! I turned down free oil changes because of this kind of incompetency!

I called and sent a text to service advisor when I couldn't get it with my normal ratchet. He actually called me back and said it was done by a "line tech" during the recall process. It was not done by one of the grease monkeys.

I said if I bust the pan, they're fixing it. After I got it out, I did notice the bung itself is pretty thick and seems to be welded in pretty solid. However, I couldn't tell for sure if the threads had a separate pressed in fitting. Anyway, I know that they'll hold somewhere around 150 ft lbs.....LOL.

Sorry to hear this AXE. Hope you sent him a picture of the tools required and the carnage to the oil filter. That is absolutely ridiculous and no excuse. To bad you can’t take the line tech out back and have a conversation.
